Day Thirteen - Struggling in the fabric of Nippori Society

Today was meant to be a rest day for all of us after a pretty busy schedule; however, we each ended up heading out to shop for various things that we have wanted to get. After a great sleep-in, Maureen and I headed out first, catching the train to Nippori Station. Nippori is also known as Fabric Town, and in Fabric Town, we visited the 800 metre long Jizo Dori Street which is affectionately known as the "Old Ladies' Harajuku" or more popularly known as Fabric Street.

Welcome to Nippori
We shopped lots of fabric stores with crazy names like 'Tomato' amassing a number of kilometres of walking distance and of fabric length. I swear, that the amount of fabric that Maureen purchased would fill a St Vincents de Paul Bin to the brim. I stuck with Maureen in every fabric shop, even offering colour suggestions when choosing 'Fat Quarters' and secretly purchasing fabric panels that Maureen not-so-subtly hinted about. My tenacity would surely see me in the running for the awarding of the Order of Lenin Medal at the very least.

Afterwards, we went a few stations further North to Sugamo, where I had researched that a 1/400 scale aircraft model shop existed...and it did, Gullivers Models. I even managed to pick up some great bargains. I'd like to say that Maureen stuck with me through my model shopping; but she went grocery shopping whilst I perused the many models.

In the meantime, Sky, Kyle and Jen headed out separately to Shibuya again, catching some of the bargains that they had missed when we visited there the day before yesterday.

What the...?

Shibuya Crossing

An interesting observation for the day was that even though the sky was blue all over, and not a single cloud to be seen, the day actually starts to get dark at around 1530h. Also, the sun doesn't appear to get any higher than around 40 degrees above the horizon in the Southern sky.

This was the Sun at Midday, still low in the sky
We all caught up after dark and headed out for dinner together, to a Thai Restaurant. Afterwards I decided to get the perfect souvenir that would represent our holiday in Japan, strangely it wasn't an aircraft; no, it was a Shinkansen (Bullet Train), an N700A to be exact. It's the train on which we covered more than 1000 kilometres.

Not many photos were taken today.
